The

Afro Latino Tambien series

letgold copy.jpg

The Afro Latino Tambien series is a recognition and celebration of the  beauty of darker skinned Afro Latinos.

The purpose of this series is to illustrate the story of our contributions throughout the diaspora, celebrate the beauty of melanin, and create opportunities in mainstream media for Afro Latinos.

With this series, Ruth aims to empower Afro Latinos to embrace their natural skin complexion. This viral series has gained worldwide attention and has been featured on Sony Alpha Female, Sony Universe, and more.

The Mexican Tambien series featured below showcases traditional Mexican Cultural Icon-Inspired Portraits. Ruth challenges us to reimagine Mexican National Treasures as Afro Mexicans.

The concept is to shoot Afro Mexican iconic portraits of traditional Mexican Cultural icons that are very influential and historic national treasures. These larger than life characters are a source of great pride to many in Mexico and appear on the national currency, the Mexican Peso. From right to left, Frida Kahlo, José María Morelos, Sor Juana Inés De La Cruz, Miguel Hidalgo, Nezahualcóyotl, and Benito Juárez.
